ABB & IBM Join to Form Industrial AI Solutions
By combining ABB’s Ability system, which gathers data digitally from machines, and IBM’s artificial intelligence and machine learning software, Watson, the companies seek to bring real-time insights to the Industrial Internet of Things.
"This powerful combination marks truly the next level of industrial technology, moving beyond current connected systems that simply gather data, to industrial operations and machines that use data to sense, analyze, optimize and take actions that drive greater uptime, speed and yield for industrial customers," said ABB Chief Executive Ulrich Spiesshofer.
The collaboration intends to collect and utilize data from sensors, devices, and software to monitor, control and manage operations in real time. With experience in more than 20 industries, ABB has spent the last 40 years building their expertise in device connectivity and it aims to create better understanding and solve challenges efficiently by integrating the vast knowledge bases of the two giants in their respective industries.
ABB believes that the partnership with IBM will allow them to create additional value for their customers by improving quality control, reducing downtime and increasing speed and yield of industrial processes. The Ability platform is an integrated industrial Internet platform and cloud infrastructure that allows businesses to leverage industrial data to increase performance.
