Horner HE-X4A Micro OCS 4" All-in-One PLC/HMI, 30 I/O, Sourcing Outputs

The Horner HE-X4A is a 4-inch all-in-one OCS (Operator Control Station) that combines a PLC, color touchscreen HMI, onboard I/O, and networking in a single slim panel-mount unit. As the Model A configuration of the Micro OCS X4, it ships with 30 built-in I/O points and sourcing DC outputs, making it a compact controller for machine and process applications that would otherwise require a separate PLC and operator panel.

Built-In I/O (Model A)

The HE-X4A carries 30 points of factory I/O so most compact applications run without an expansion module. Model A outputs are sourcing.

Control and Display

A 256 kB ladder logic engine runs at a 0.4 mS/K scan rate with floating-point math and AutoTune PID, so the HE-X4A handles closed-loop control alongside its operator interface. The 4-inch color touchscreen renders 480 x 272 resolution at 350 nits, supports up to 250 pages with 100 objects per page, and stores project data and datalogs to removable microSD media.

Connectivity and Networking

The controller communicates across serial, Ethernet, and CAN without add-on hardware:

• Serial: one RS-232 and one RS-485 port, plus USB Mini-B, with Modbus RTU master/slave and serial ASCII in/out
• Ethernet: one LAN port supporting EtherNet/IP (server and HMI), Modbus TCP (client/server), EGD, and optional BACnet IP server
• CAN: integrated CsCAN networking up to 1,640 ft, including programming over CAN
• Services: SMTP client, NTP client, and FTP server

Expansion Path

When onboard I/O runs short, the HE-X4A scales to 1024 digital inputs / 1024 digital outputs and 256 analog inputs / 256 analog outputs over Ethernet, CAN, or serial using Horner SmartStix, SmartRail, SmartBlock, and OCS-I/O modules. This lets a single 4-inch unit grow with the application instead of being replaced by a larger controller.

Remote Access and IIoT

The HE-X4A connects to the Horner OCS360 cloud service and serves HTML5 dashboards through WebMI, giving operators and engineers browser-based visibility from the plant floor or off-site. It is programmed in Horner Cscape, available as a free download.

Typical Applications

Compact machine control, OEM equipment, pump and water/wastewater stations, HVAC and building systems, temperature and process loops using the onboard RTD and analog channels, and skid-mounted systems where panel space is limited.
