How LR7 Components Fit Together
An LR7 signal tower is built from three component types, stacked in order from bottom to top:
- Base unit — the bottom housing that provides the mounting interface (direct mount, knock-out mount) and wiring termination (3m cable or screwless terminal block). Contains no LEDs or buzzer.
- LED light units — one module per color, stacked in the order the customer wants (Red/Amber/Green is most common). Available in Red, Amber, Green, Blue, and White.
- Buzzer module (optional) — 90dB omni-directional audible unit installed at the top of the stack. Body color matches the base unit.
All three component types use Patlite's "Twist and Lock" modular connection — a quarter-turn engagement that seats and locks each module to the one below it. No tools, no rewiring, no gaskets to set. When replacing a component, modules must be removed sequentially from the top down to protect the internal pin connections.
Who Buys LR7 Components?
- Maintenance and MRO — replacing a failed LED tier, base unit, or buzzer on an in-service LR7 tower without having to replace the entire assembly
- Process changes — adding a Blue or White tier to an existing RYG tower to signal a new machine state (maintenance required, call supervisor, shortage alert, etc.)

LED color selection: Use standard industry conventions — Green for "running/ready," Amber for "caution/warning," Red for "fault/stop." Blue is commonly used for "maintenance required" or "call for service," and White for "end of cycle" or "operator attention."

Component Selection Guide
Replacing a single failed LED tier
Identify the color of the failed tier and order the matching LR7-E-[color] module. Remove tiers sequentially from the top until you reach the failed module, swap it, then reassemble top-down. No wiring required.
Adding a buzzer to an existing silent tower
Order the LR7-BW / LR7-BK / LR7-BU buzzer module matched to your tower body color. The buzzer installs at the top of the existing stack. The common signal line in the base unit supports the buzzer — no additional wiring needed at the base.
Building a custom tower from scratch
Start with a base unit (WJ for direct mount with cable, WT for direct mount with terminal, KT if you need knock-out flexibility for a pole mount), then add LED tiers in the order you want them stacked (top to bottom), and finally add a buzzer if needed. Example 3-tier RYG tower with buzzer on an off-white terminal-block base: LR7-02WTNW + LR7-E-R + LR7-E-Y + LR7-E-G + LR7-BW.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I mix LR7 components with LR4, LR5, or LR6 components?
No. Each LR series has its own diameter and its own "Twist and Lock" connection geometry. LR7 components (70mm) only connect to other LR7 components. Base units, LED tiers, and buzzers from the LR4 (40mm), LR5 (50mm), and LR6 (60mm) series are not cross-compatible.
What's the difference between WJ, WT, and KT base units?
WJ is direct mount with a 3-meter pre-wired cable — the most common configuration. WT is direct mount with a removable screwless terminal block, preferred when you want to terminate your own wiring run through conduit. KT has built-in knock-out holes that let you convert between direct mount and pole mount in the field. WT and KT both use screwless terminal blocks.
How do I remove a failed LED tier in the middle of a stack?
Remove tiers one at a time from the top down, rotating counter-clockwise a quarter turn to unlock, then pulling straight up. Continue until you reach the failed tier, replace it, then reassemble top-down (seat and rotate clockwise a quarter turn to lock each module). Do not try to pry a middle tier off without removing the ones above it — this damages the internal pin contacts.
Can I use an LR7 LED module with an LR7 LAN-enabled base?
At present, Patlite's LAN-enabled base units are available for the LR5 series (LR5-LAN Ethernet/IP and Modbus/TCP). If Patlite releases an LR7-LAN in the future, standard LR7 LED modules are expected to be compatible based on the consistent modular architecture, but verify against the product datasheet before ordering.
Are LR7 components rated IP65 individually?
IP65 applies to the fully assembled LR7 tower with all modules seated and locked. Individual components are not rated for exposure before assembly. Once assembled, the tower is dust-tight and water-jet resistant per IP65.
