The SMC AFM20-F02C-D is a body size 20 modular mist separator from the current AFM20-D to AFM40-D series. It strips oil mist and fine solid particles from compressed air down to a 0.3 micron nominal rating, protecting downstream regulators, valves, air tools, and precision pneumatics. This configuration ships with a 1/4" G (BSPP) port, a normally closed (N.C.) float-type auto drain, and a polycarbonate bowl fitted with the current 2-layer transparent bowl guard for 360-degree drain visibility.
Direct Replacement
The AFM20-F02C-D is the direct, drop-in replacement for the obsoleted SMC AFM20-F02C-C-A. It carries over every physical and functional specification of the legacy part while moving to the updated -D series chassis. What Changed From the Legacy AFM20-F02C-C-A
The move from the legacy part to the -D series is a chassis update, not a functional change. The differences that matter:
- The "-C" suffix is gone. On the legacy part number, the extra "-C" designated a specific polycarbonate bowl guard option. On the -D series, the transparent 2-layer bowl guard is standard equipment, so that secondary code is now redundant. The guard you were specifying separately now comes on every unit.
- Mounting stays interchangeable. The -D model keeps complete mounting interchangeability with the existing modular system. SMC held the face-to-face dimensions and connection profiles of the -D series in line with the legacy products.
- Updated look, same footprint. The -D generation carries the current 2-layer bowl construction and refreshed styling without changing how the unit lands in an F.R.L. bank.
Compatibility Facts: Do You Need New Spacers?
No. You can replace just the filter unit without modifying the rest of your air line assembly.
- Interchangeable body connections. SMC designed the face-to-face dimensions and connection profiles of the -D series to line up with the legacy products, so the new unit drops into your existing bank.
- Reuse your existing spacers. You can install the AFM20-F02C-D directly into your existing F.R.L. (Filter-Regulator-Lubricator) bank using your current Y200 or Y200-A modular spacers and brackets.
- Y-D spacers are optional. SMC launched a matching line of gray Y-D series spacers to match the updated look of the new units, but they are not functionally required to bridge the generation gap.
