Long Reach. Lean Footprint. No Compromise.
The Universal Robots UR8 Long is purpose-built for applications where reach is the primary constraint — welding large weld envelopes, pick & place across wide automotive body-in-white structures, quality inspection, and surface finishing tasks where precise linear motion over extended distances is required. With 1750 mm of reach and an 8 kg payload (up to 10 kg with boundary conditions), the UR8 Long covers the same reach envelope as the UR20 in a lighter 44.7 kg arm — making it the optimized platform for high-speed, long-reach applications where payload demands are moderate but cycle time and installation flexibility are critical.
The UR8 Long's 2-1-3 joint architecture and optimized arm geometry deliver a 5 m/s maximum TCP speed with ±0.08 mm repeatability — the fast, precise linear paths that welding torch control, seam sealing, adhesive dispensing, and high-throughput pick & place cycles demand. IP65 arm protection, any-orientation mounting, and a Ø204 mm base footprint make the UR8 Long equally deployable in automotive assembly, fabricated metals, food and beverage, and cleanroom environments.
With 21 configurable safety functions — the most in the UR lineup — and compliance with EN ISO 13849-1 PLd Category 3, EN ISO 10218-1, and UL 1740, the UR8 Long is engineered for collaborative deployment in the high-speed, long-reach applications where precise safety zone configuration matters most. Available from Automation Distribution in PolyScope 5 and PolyScope X configurations with standard AC, OEM AC, and OEM DC controller variants, in 6 m and 12 m cable lengths.

1750 mm Reach for Large Work Envelopes
Cover full automotive body structures, wide conveyor spans, and large weld assemblies from a single base position without repositioning. The 1750 mm reach — matched only by the UR20 in the UR series — enables single-station automation of tasks that would otherwise require multiple robots or rail-mounted systems.
5 m/s TCP Speed for High-Throughput Cycles
The fastest TCP speed in its payload class. The UR8 Long's 2-1-3 joint architecture and optimized arm weight deliver rapid, precise linear paths for welding torch control, seam sealing, adhesive dispensing, and pick & place cycles where speed directly drives throughput and station utilization.
Accurate Torque Control for Consistent Welds
Precise joint torque control enables seamless torch guidance for cleaner weld beads with less spatter, reduced grinding time, and lower rework rates. The UR8 Long handles repetitive and ergonomically demanding weld positions — freeing skilled welders for the higher-value work only they can do.
21 Safety Functions — The Most in the UR Series
21 configurable safety functions, PLd Category 3, EN ISO 10218-1, and UL 1740 compliance. The expanded safety function set gives integrators and safety engineers granular control over collaborative operating limits — particularly valuable in high-speed, long-reach applications where the robot's motion envelope significantly overlaps with operator work areas.
Lean Footprint for Constrained Installations
Ø204 mm base footprint and 44.7 kg arm weight enable ceiling mounting, side-wall installation, and integration into tight body-in-white structures and production lines already running at capacity. Any-orientation mounting opens installations that fixed-base industrial robots cannot serve.
IP65 for Industrial Environments
Full IP65 arm protection for continuous duty in weld spatter, coolant mist, metal dust, and food processing washdown environments. The UR8 Long is built for the conditions where long-reach automation is most needed.
The UR8 Long is optimized for applications where reach and linear motion precision drive the platform choice — welding, automotive assembly, pick & place over wide spans, quality inspection, palletizing, and surface finishing on large workpieces.

Welding
The UR8 Long's 1750 mm reach covers large weld envelopes on structural assemblies, frames, and fabricated components from a single base position. Precise torque control delivers consistent torch guidance for clean, repeatable weld beads — less spatter, less grinding, less rework. Handles the repetitive and ergonomically demanding positions that put welders at risk of cumulative strain injury, while freeing your certified welding team for setup, inspection, and complex joints that require human judgment.
Material Handling & Palletizing
1750 mm reach covers standard pallet footprints and wide conveyor spans from a compact, fixed base. Consistent pick placement and configurable speed profiles support both high-throughput warehouse operations and precision part transfer between machining stations.

Automotive Assembly & Quality Inspection
Long reach and compact footprint allow the UR8 Long to access the full span of vehicle body structures — applying sealant, performing dimensional checks, installing fasteners, and conducting surface inspection without repositioning. Ceiling or side-wall mounting maximizes floor space utilization in body-in-white lines where every square meter is committed.
Dispensing & Seam Sealing
5 m/s TCP speed and ±0.08 mm repeatability deliver precise, consistent bead placement on long seams. Accurate torque control maintains consistent tip pressure across the full reach envelope — critical for seam sealing, adhesive dispensing, and coating applications where bead width and volume must stay within tight tolerances.

Pick & Place
Fast linear acceleration and 5 m/s TCP speed make the UR8 Long one of the most efficient pick & place platforms in the UR series for payloads up to 8 kg. The 1750 mm reach covers wide pick and place zones — multiple conveyor lanes, multi-nest fixtures, and large kitting tables — from a single installation point.
Sanding, Polishing & Surface Finishing
Force/torque sensing and consistent path control deliver uniform surface contact across large workpieces. The UR8 Long maintains consistent tool pressure through the full reach envelope — critical for sanding, deburring, and polishing applications where uneven contact creates defects.
Industries: Automotive manufacturing & tier suppliers, fabricated metals & welding shops, food & beverage, electronics assembly, aerospace sub-assembly, and any operation where long reach and high-speed linear motion are the primary automation requirements.
The UR8 Long carries more configurable safety functions than any other robot in the UR series — 21 in total — giving safety engineers precise control over joint positions, speeds, forces, power, momentum, and stopping time and distance. At 5 m/s TCP speed over a 1750 mm reach envelope, the granularity of these safety configurations is essential for defining collaborative operating zones that protect operators without unnecessarily restricting robot motion.
A documented risk assessment per ISO 10218-2 and ISO/TS 15066 is mandatory before deployment in any collaborative application. At maximum speed and reach, safety-rated reduced speed, force/power limiting, or physical guarding may be required depending on your specific application, end-effector, and workpiece. Contact ADI or a certified UR integrator to evaluate your installation before ordering.

The UR8 Long is engineered for the fast, precise linear motion that welding, seam sealing, and high-speed pick & place demand. The 2-1-3 joint architecture minimizes mechanical flex at full extension, maintaining ±0.08 mm path accuracy at the maximum 1750 mm reach — critical for welding torch consistency and dimensional inspection reliability.
PolyScope X variants (SKU 201601, 201602, 201597, 201598, 201593, 201594) add Motion Profiles (SW 10.10.0+) — advanced path execution that reduces vibration, smooths direction changes on complex weld paths, and optimizes acceleration profiles for high-speed pick & place cycles to improve both cycle time and repeatability.
