The SMC AF20-01-A is a modular pneumatic air filter from SMC's AF10-AF60-A series, with a body size 20, Rc 1/8 ports, a 5 micron filter element, a polycarbonate bowl, and a manual drain (drain cock). It removes condensed water and solid particulate from compressed air ahead of regulators, lubricators, valves and actuators. Its modular construction connects directly to other size-20 SMC air-preparation components to build a compact F.R.L. station.

Who still orders the AF20-01-A
The AF20-01-A is most often purchased as a like-for-like spare for machines and air-prep panels already built around the AF-A series. If you are maintaining an existing line, replacing a cracked bowl or a clogged filter, or matching the exact footprint and connection of an installed size-20 station, the AF20-01-A keeps the assembly consistent without re-plumbing. For new designs, specify the AF20-01-D instead - it is the current production part and the one SMC supports going forward.
AF-A vs AF-D: what changed
The AF-A and AF-D are both 5 micron modular air filters that share SMC's one-piece element-and-bowl design for fast, tool-free element changes. The newer AF-D series updates the housing for roughly 1.3x more filtration capacity and improved water separation for longer element life, while keeping the same modular interface so it drops into the same air-prep lineup. For the AF20-01-A specifically, the equivalent new part is the AF20-01-D (body size 20, Rc 1/8).
