Why the EX260-SEN1
The EX260-SEN1 is SMC's compact, cost-effective EtherNet/IP SI unit designed specifically for valve output control. At only 28mm wide, it integrates directly onto SMC's most popular solenoid valve manifold bases — SY series, JSY series, SV, VQC, and S0700 — replacing all discrete solenoid wiring with a single Ethernet cable. Where the EX600 is a modular platform that supports mixed digital, analog, and IO-Link I/O, the EX260 is purpose-built for one job: getting valve outputs onto the fieldbus network as simply and inexpensively as possible.
The EX260-SEN1 comes with dual Ethernet ports (M12 D-coded, SPEEDCON compatible), supporting star, linear bus, and ring (DLR) topologies out of the box. This eliminates the need for external Ethernet switches or branch connectors in daisy-chain configurations — each EX260 passes the network connection through to the next node, reducing both wiring and component cost. IP67 enclosure rating means the manifold can mount directly on the machine frame, outside the control cabinet, without a protective enclosure.
The EX260 provides diagnostic data through the EtherNet/IP protocol, including solenoid valve power supply status monitoring. Output numbering starts at zero and maps directly to the solenoid position on the manifold, so the PLC's I/O tree matches the physical valve layout with no manual byte-level mapping. Controller power and solenoid valve power are isolated through separate pins on the single M12 A-coded power connector, allowing either a single power supply or dual supplies depending on the application's safety and power architecture requirements.

Compatible Valve Series
The EX260-SEN1 integrates directly onto the following SMC valve manifold bases:
| Valve Series | Max Solenoids | Applicable Cylinder |
|---|---|---|
| SY (New) — SY3000 / SY5000 / SY7000 | 32 | ø50–ø80 |
| SV1000 / SV2000 / SV3000 | 32 | ø40–ø80 |
| VQC1000 / VQC2000 / VQC4000 | 24 | ø40–ø160 |
| S0700 | 32 | ø25 |
| JSY1000 (Integrated JSY/Vacuum) | 32 | ø40 |
Compact On-Machine Mounting
At only 28mm wide with IP67 protection, the EX260 mounts directly on the valve manifold and on the machine frame — no control panel space, no enclosure, no wire duct. Move the valves closer to the actuators for shorter pneumatic tubing runs and faster cylinder response.
Dual Port / Daisy-Chain
Two M12 D-coded Ethernet ports (SPEEDCON compatible) eliminate the need for external switches or branch connectors. Daisy-chain multiple EX260 nodes together in a linear bus, or connect in a DLR ring for network redundancy. Each node passes the connection to the next — reducing cabling and component cost.
Single-Cable Connection
One Ethernet cable replaces up to 32 discrete solenoid wires. One M12 A-coded power connector supplies both controller power and solenoid valve power through isolated pins — either a single 24VDC supply or dual supplies for applications requiring independent power paths.
Diagnostic Monitoring
The EX260 reports solenoid valve power supply status back to the PLC via EtherNet/IP service data, enabling fault detection without physical inspection. LED indicators on the unit display network status (NS), module status (MS), port link/activity (L/A1, L/A2), and valve power status (PWR(V)).

Contact Application EngineeringFrequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the EX260 and the EX600?
The EX260 is a compact, cost-effective fieldbus interface designed specifically for valve output control. It connects directly to the valve manifold with no additional I/O modules. The EX600 is a modular platform that supports valve output plus digital input/output, analog input/output, and IO-Link master modules. Choose the EX260 for straightforward valve manifold communication; choose the EX600 when you also need sensor inputs, external outputs, or IO-Link devices on the same node.
What is the difference between the EX260-SEN1 and EX260-SEN3?
The EX260-SEN1 supports 32 solenoid outputs and the EX260-SEN3 supports 16 solenoid outputs. Both are PNP (Source / Negative Common) and use the same physical housing and mounting. Select based on the number of valve stations on your manifold — SEN1 for manifolds with 17–32 stations, SEN3 for manifolds with 16 or fewer.
Can the EX260-SEN1 be daisy-chained?
Yes. The EX260-SEN1 has two M12 D-coded Ethernet ports (BUS IN and BUS OUT). Connect PORT 1 (BUS IN) from the upstream switch or node, and PORT 2 (BUS OUT) passes the connection to the next EX260 or EtherNet/IP device downstream. This eliminates the need for external Ethernet switches in linear bus configurations. DLR ring topology is also supported.
Does the EX260 mount outside the control cabinet?
Yes. The EX260 is IP67 rated and designed for on-machine mounting. At 28mm wide, it adds minimal footprint to the valve manifold. Seal caps (EX9-AWTS) must be installed on any unused connectors to maintain the IP67 rating.
How do I configure the EX260-SEN1 in a Rockwell PLC?
Download the EDS file (ex260_sen1_24_v**.eds) from SMC's website and install it in Studio 5000 or RSLogix 5000. Set the IP address using the rotary DIP switches on the SI unit (with power off) or assign via DHCP. The EX260 will appear in the PLC's I/O tree with output numbering starting at zero, mapped to the solenoid positions on the manifold.
What if I need digital inputs for cylinder sensors on the same manifold?
The EX260 handles valve outputs only — it does not support add-on I/O modules. If you need digital inputs for auto switches, proximity sensors, or limit switches on the same network node, you need the EX600 platform, which supports snap-on digital input modules alongside the valve manifold.
