Yaskawa SLIO Remote I-O
SLIO is Yaskawa's slice I/O system: 12.9 mm x 109 mm x 76.5 mm per module, direct mounting on 35 mm standard profile rail, up to 64 signal and function modules per interface, and a backplane bus running at 48 Mbit/s with reaction times down to 20 microseconds. Modules mount directly to an iC9200 machine controller over the SliceBus, or behind an IM 053 series bus coupler as a standalone remote node on Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, PROFIBUS-DP, or CANopen.
Platform compatibility - read this before ordering
The SLIO catalog is split by control platform. Yaskawa maintains separate module lists for iCube Engineer (iC9200 series) and MotionWorks IEC (MPiec series), and states plainly that not all modules are supported by either hardware configuration tool. A module that physically seats on the backplane is not necessarily a module your engineering software will configure.

IM 053 Bus Couplers by Protocol
The coupler is what makes a SLIO rack a remote node. One coupler, one protocol - this is not a software selection.

Using SLIO with the iC9200 Machine Controller
On the iC9200 iCube Control platform, SLIO modules attach directly to the right side of the CPU over the SliceBus - no coupler required for local expansion. Three build details matter:
- The power module is mandatory, not optional. When using System SLIO modules with an iC9200, you must always mount the 007-1AB00 DC 24V 10A power module. The CPU does not provide a power section supply for the periphery modules. This is the single most common omission on a first iC9200 bill of materials.
- Modules are two pieces. Each periphery module consists of a terminal module and an electronic module. The terminal module carries the backplane bus, the DC 24V power section supply, and the field wiring; the electronic module plugs into it. That is what allows electronics replacement without disturbing field wiring - and it is why the ordering quantity is not always what a channel count implies.
- The rack needs an end cover. After mounting the last module, a bus cover protects the exposed backplane connectors. If the last module is a clamp module, the upper part of the bus cover is removed for fit. Add it to the BOM.
SLIO Safety I/O for FSoE Applications
The 021-1SD10 provides four safe digital inputs over FSoE and can be mounted directly to an iC9200 controller or remotely on an EtherCAT fieldbus module.
Two conditions apply. First, safe I/O requires a safety master: the iC9226M-FSoE variant includes an integrated EtherCAT FSoE safety master, while the standard iC9226M-EC does not, and no firmware update converts one into the other. Second, the module's F address is set by DIP switch on the hardware before installation and must match the configuration in iCube Engineer. Set it on the bench, not after the module is buried in a rack. For safe output channels, talk to us about the current options for your controller variant - the right answer depends on whether you are using ASM-X advanced safety modules on the servo side or discrete safety outputs.
Legacy VIPA SLIO Part Numbers
SLIO originated with VIPA, which Yaskawa acquired, and the module numbering carried over unchanged. If your drawings show a VIPA part number in the 001, 007, 021, 022, 031, 032, or 053 families, it is the same numbering scheme Yaskawa uses today. Be aware that legacy VIPA catalogs and resale listings still circulate online and include parts that have since been withdrawn, with no marker separating current from discontinued.
