The Leuze AMS 304i 40 is a precision optical distance sensor engineered for collision protection in overhead crane and gantry systems. This laser-based sensor delivers measurement ranges from 200 to 40,000 mm with 2 mm accuracy and 0.9 mm reproducibility (3 sigma), making it suitable for demanding industrial safety applications. The sensor operates on 1830 V DC and provides dual communication interfaces via PROFIBUS DP and SSI protocols (0.009612 Mbit/s), with all connections using standard M12 5-pin connectors. Its metal diecast housing and glass lens cover ensure durability in factory environments.
The sensor features a Class 2 red laser light source compliant with IEC/EN 60825-1:2014. Resolution is configurable from 0.001 to 10 mm, and the device supports a maximum traverse rate of 10 m/s. A membrane keyboard provides operational controls. Dimensions are 84 × 166.5 × 159 mm. This sensor is part of the AMS 300i series and is commonly integrated into programmable logic controller (PLC) systems for real-time distance monitoring and automated safety interlocks.
