LMI Introduces "Legal for Trade" Measurement Kit

LMI Introduces "Legal for Trade" Measurement Kit

Weighing equipment must be certified as "legal for trade" or "trade authorized" in any business setting where products are sold by weight. This basically implies that the apparatus has been put through a rigorous series of testing to make sure it is sufficient accurate and appropriate for the task at hand.

In the US, Handbook 44 outlines the specifications for lawful for commerce weighing equipment (Specific Tolerances and Other Technical Requirements for Weighing and Measuring Devices). The National Conference on Weights and Measures (NCWM) and the Weights and Measure division of the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) together created the National Type Evaluation Program (NTEP), which certifies equipment (NIST). NTEP is a procedure for weighing apparatus testing and evaluation to make sure that it complies with Handbook 44.

Devices that are used for selling, buying, exchanging, transferring custody, or calculating the cost of services or hiring based on a measurement are considered to be "used for trade" according to NTEP. A weighing or measuring device is a "device" under the NTEP's terminology. The phrase also refers to important components.

LMI Technologies will be offering a Legal for Trade certified multiple dimension measuring device for the accurate data capture of measurements (used in the calculation of dimensional weight) for parcels in the courier, express, postal, and cargo industry and for warehousing and logistics applications. The LMI solution will include a 3D laser profile sensor, linear encoder, custom software package, and smart display for volume measurement as well as no-contact, dynamic LxWxH measurement. The new Gocator® Packaging and Logistics Measurement Kit is officially certified by the US regulatory body, The National Conference on Weights and Measures (NCWM).

Gocator® Packaging and Logistics Measurement Kits Will Include:

Gocator® 2490 Laser Profiler Sensor

  • Wide field of view, single 3D sensor can be used on conveyors up to 75 inches wide
  • Communicates measurements directly to Smart Display described below
  • Easy to set up and run (~2-3 hours) using pre-configured job file

Linear Wheel Encoder

  • Spring loaded for easy integration with existing conveyor systems
  • Encoder signal initiates 3D line profile capture for precise synchronization with belt movement

Cordsets

  • Connections between sensor, encoder, and smart display

Smart Display

  • Standalone touchscreen interface for control and display of measurement results (LxWxH) of parcels traveling on conveyor

User Interface

The user interface is provided by the smart display, which also indicates alignment status, enables the user to activate alignment, reports readings that are outside of the acceptable range, and resets alignment if the sensor temperature changes by at least five degrees.

The new Gocator® Packaging and Logistics Measurement Kit is officially certified by the US regulatory body, The National Conference on Weights and Measures (NCWM). Contact us today to be notified of availability.
