Universal Robots Offers Flexible Accessories Options from 100+ Developers

An investment in new collaborative robots requires more than just the robot and some simple integration. End effectors, software and other fittings will be required to get the job done. Universal Robots seeks to streamline the process of adding the appropriate parts to their robot arm by using a single user platform.

“We offer a technology platform with our UR arm and our mission is to take the complexity out of an application,” said Jürgen Von Hollen, president of Universal Robots. “We do this with the technology we offer, while also creating an ecosystem of partners and developers to leverage our platform and bring in a do-it-yourself attitude.”

Lists of developers, UR approved end-effectors, software and accessories are all available in an easy to navigate website. As of May 2017, there are more than 30 different Universal Robots certified products and 100 developers. “The idea is that the API layer that we are creating is very open. We’re trying to leverage the global innovation that’s taking place, not just within our company, but elsewhere, to provide the best solutions to our customers,” explained Van Hollen.

The open API allows for continuous development from new entrants into the Universal Robots accessories space and will offer all types of manufacturers more choices in terms of application, price and flexibility with the purchase of just one robot, making Universal Robots even more collaborative.

Automation Distribution is a distributor of Robotiq accessories, which are specifically designed for use with Universal Robots. Register now for our Universal Robots workshop on June 28 for a live demo of Universal Robots and Robotiq.
