The Leuze BPS 358i SM 100 H is a compact PROFINET bar code positioning system engineered for precise, non-contact position detection in automated manufacturing, material handling, and logistics equipment. This device reads encoded bar code tape affixed to moving components and outputs high-resolution position data with fast response times, making it suitable for applications requiring synchronized motion control, safety-critical positioning, or inventory tracking on conveyor systems, automated storage solutions, and modular production lines.
Operating from a 1830 V DC supply with typical power consumption of 3.7 W, the unit communicates position and status information directly over PROFINET RT via integrated M12 connectors at transmission speeds up to 100 Mbit/s. The compact cubic housing (100 × 108.7 × 48.3 mm) is constructed from diecast aluminum with a glass lens cover and meets IP 65 protection for use in industrial environments with coolant mist, dust, or washdown exposure. Configuration and diagnostics are accessible through an integrated web browser interface, eliminating the need for dedicated gateway hardware. The integrated heating element (H variant) maintains optical stability in sub-zero ambient temperatures ranging from 5 to +50 °C during operation, with storage capability to 35 °C. Output current capability of 60 mA supports direct connection to fieldbus networks, safety-rated controls, and frequency inverters. Mounting is facilitated via dovetail grooves on the rear housing, and optional fastening devices allow flexible installation in confined spaces or on dynamic assemblies.
