The proven entry point into smart 3D laser line profiling. Gocator 2100 Series sensors deliver factory-calibrated, all-in-one inline 3D inspection without the cost of higher-resolution platforms - and they share the same software, networking, and integration ecosystem as every other Gocator sensor.

The Gocator 2100 Series is built for cost-effective inline quality inspection across general manufacturing, packaging, building materials, and assembly verification applications where micron-level resolution is not required. Seven optical models span fields of view from 18 mm up to 1260 mm and measurement ranges from 25 mm up to 1350 mm, so you can match the sensor to the part without changing platforms. All 2100 Series models ship with a 660 nm red laser in either Class 2 or Class 3R configurations. Because the 2100 Series shares its software, networking, and integration ecosystem with the rest of the Gocator family, systems built today can be upgraded to higher-resolution Gocator 2300, 2400, or 2600 Series sensors with no adaptation or additional learning.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Gocator 2100 Series used for?

The Gocator 2100 Series is LMI Technologies' entry-level family of 3D laser line profile sensors, used for cost-effective inline 3D inspection where the highest available resolution is not required. Typical applications include assembly verification, dimensional gauging, weld bead profiling, packaging inspection, lumber and panel scanning, and robot guidance. View the Gocator 2100 Series at Automation Distribution.

What laser classes are available for the Gocator 2100 Series?

The Gocator 2100 Series is supplied in two standard laser class configurations: Class 2 and Class 3R, both at 660 nm red wavelength. Class 2 is the default safer-eye-rated option for most factory environments. Class 3R is selected when higher laser power improves performance on dark, absorptive, or low-reflectivity surfaces. Custom laser configurations are available on request. Contact Automation Distribution at 1-888-600-3080 for application-specific recommendations.

What is the difference between Gocator 2100 and Gocator 2300?

The Gocator 2100 Series uses a VGA imager with 640 data points per profile (1280 on the 2120), targeting cost-effective applications where standard resolution is acceptable. The Gocator 2300 Series is the higher-resolution workhorse family with more data points per profile, tighter Z repeatability, and an additional Class 3B laser option for difficult target materials. Both series share the same software, networking, accessories, and integration toolkit, so systems can be upgraded in place without re-engineering.

Top Mount or Side Mount: which Gocator 2100 do I order?

Mount orientation refers to the position of the I/O and power connectors relative to the laser emitter, which determines how the sensor fits into your machine envelope. The Gocator 2120 is supplied in Side Mount (-S suffix) configuration. The Gocator 2130, 2140, 2150, 2170, 2175, and 2180 are supplied in Top Mount (-T suffix) configuration. If your installation requires a different orientation than the standard, contact Automation Distribution for custom options.

Can I network multiple Gocator 2100 sensors together?

Yes. LMI Master network controllers (Master 100, 400, 800, 1200, and 2400) support 4, 8, 12, or 24 Gocator connections with synchronized power, laser safety, encoder input, and external trigger distribution. Each Gocator transmits 3D profile data to the host computer through standard Ethernet switches. Multi-sensor configurations let you cover wider targets, scan all sides of a part simultaneously, or build 360-degree inspection stations.

Is the Gocator 2100 factory-calibrated?

Yes. Every Gocator 2100 Series sensor is factory pre-calibrated and delivers real-world XYZ coordinates straight from the box. There is no on-site calibration routine required during commissioning.

Does the Gocator 2100 work with GoPxL?

The Gocator 2100 Series uses LMI's browser-based configuration GUI and open-source SDK as its native software environment. GoPxL is LMI's latest-generation IIoT Vision Inspection Software platform, primarily targeted at newer Gocator hardware. For specific GoPxL compatibility questions on the 2100 Series, contact Automation Distribution at 1-888-600-3080.
