What is the advantage of double solenoid versus single solenoid? A single solenoid valve uses a spring to return the spool to its de-energized position. A double solenoid valve has solenoids on both ends energizing one side shifts the spool left, energizing the other shifts it right. When both are de-energized, the spool stays in its last position (memory function). This is critical in clean room applications where actuators must hold their position during power loss or emergency stops, preventing uncontrolled cylinder retraction that could damage workpieces or create safety hazards.
