Universal Robots UR16e Collaborative Robot
Universal RobotsUniversal Robots e-Series | Collaborative Robot
Heavy-Duty, Compact — Maximum Payload in Minimum Space.
Heavy Payload. Compact Footprint. No Compromise.
The UR16e is Universal Robots' answer to a specific and common problem in manufacturing: the need to lift heavy parts in environments where space is at a premium. With 16 kg of payload capacity in the same compact e-Series body that houses the UR10e — and a footprint of just Ø190 mm — the UR16e delivers the highest payload density of any cobot in its class.
Where other high-payload robots demand a dedicated cell, a large footprint, or a full safety cage installation, the UR16e fits on an existing workstation, integrates into a running production line, and works collaboratively alongside operators. It handles heavy parts, multi-part loads, heavy-duty machine tending, and ergonomically challenging tasks that put real strain on workers — without the infrastructure demands of traditional industrial automation.
With 900 mm of reach, the UR16e can access the interior of CNC machines, tend large presses, reach across conveyor spans, and handle components that previously required two-person lifts — all in a platform light enough to redeploy when your production requirements change. It is available on both PolyScope 5 and PolyScope X, making it compatible with existing UR fleets and new deployments alike.

The UR16e carries 16 kg in the same compact body as the UR10e — more than 28% more payload capacity with an identical Ø190 mm footprint and nearly identical robot weight. For applications where payload matters more than reach, the UR16e is the most efficient platform in the e-Series lineup.
Why the UR16e
Maximum Payload, Minimum Footprint
16 kg in a Ø190 mm footprint means the UR16e fits where traditional high-payload robots don't — on existing workbenches, inside machine enclosures, and within production lines already running at capacity.
Eliminate Ergonomic Risk
Heavy part handling and repetitive lifting over 10 kg is one of the leading causes of workplace injury. The UR16e takes those tasks permanently off your workforce, reducing injury claims, downtime, and turnover.
Full Speed at Full Payload
The UR16e is engineered to run at maximum speed across its full payload range at maximum reach — not a theoretical peak that requires reducing load or speed in practice.
Multi-Part Handling
Heavy tooling and multi-part grippers push effective payload requirements well above the part weight alone. The UR16e's payload headroom supports complex end-effectors and multi-part pick strategies.
Collaborative Safety Architecture
17 configurable safety functions, force/torque sensing on all 6 joints, and ISO/TS 15066 compliance mean the UR16e can work alongside people even at high payload — subject to risk assessment.
Redeploy Across Applications
When heavy-duty tasks change or production lines are reconfigured, the UR16e moves with them. One robot across multiple heavy applications — maximizing your automation ROI.
Common Applications
The UR16e targets the heaviest end of collaborative automation — tasks where payload is the primary constraint and where traditional automation solutions are often too expensive, too large, or too inflexible to justify.
Palletizing
16 kg payload handles standard case weights plus gripper and tooling plate — covering the majority of palletizing configurations without requiring a dedicated large-format robot cell. The UR16e's compact footprint and any-orientation mounting make it deployable on standard gantry systems for dual-pallet or high-layer configurations.
CNC Machine Tending
900 mm reach accesses most CNC enclosure interiors. 16 kg payload handles heavy fixtures, dual-part grippers, and large machined components — with the embedded wrist force/torque sensor confirming part seating before the CNC cycle starts, eliminating mis-load scrap events.
Welding
Heavy MIG and TIG torch assemblies and wire feeders consume payload before the weld begins. The UR16e's 16 kg headroom supports complete welding end effector packages at full capacity — with consistent torch positioning at ±0.05 mm repeatability across every cycle. PolyScope X variants add OptiMove for smoother arc paths and reduced vibration.
Sanding & Polishing
Force-controlled surface contact on heavy castings, aluminium tooling blocks, and formed parts. The embedded wrist sensor manages contact force consistently across every cycle — without operator variability affecting surface quality or tool wear.
Heavy Assembly
Join heavy sub-assemblies in automotive, aerospace, and industrial manufacturing with consistent controlled force.
Injection Moulding
Extract heavy moulded parts and inserts from large injection moulding machines. OEM variants (SKU 112316, 113316, 200154, 200158) include the SPI AN-146 / Euromap-67 interface for direct machine integration.
Press Tending
Load and unload stamping presses, forging equipment, and hydraulic presses handling heavy blanks and formed parts.
Deburring & Deflashing
Force-controlled material removal on heavy castings and moulded parts — consistent edge quality across full production runs.
Heavy Material Handling
Transfer and position heavy forgings, castings, and fabricated components between workstations — eliminating repetitive lifting injuries while improving throughput consistency across all shifts.
Automotive manufacturing and tier suppliers, CNC job shops, aerospace sub-assembly, heavy consumer goods, food & beverage packaging, metal fabrication, foundry and casting operations, plastics and injection moulding, and any operation where heavy repetitive lifting is a current ergonomic risk or productivity bottleneck.
Collaborative & Safe at High Payload
The UR16e is built on the same collaborative safety architecture as every e-Series cobot — 17 configurable safety functions, force/torque sensing on all 6 joints, and full ISO/TS 15066 compliance. Even at 16 kg payload, the UR16e can operate in shared workspaces with appropriate risk assessment and safety configuration in place. This is what makes it fundamentally different from traditional industrial robots at this payload class — it doesn't demand a cage, a light curtain, or a dedicated safety zone by default.
| Safety Standard | EN ISO 13849-1, PLd Category 3 |
| Collaborative Standard | ISO/TS 15066, ISO 10218-1 |
| Configurable Safety Functions | 17 — joint positions, speeds, forces, power, momentum, stopping time/distance |
| Force/Torque Sensing | All 6 joints — automatic protective stop on threshold breach |
| 3PE Option | Available on SKU 110416 and 200179 — ISO 10218-2 enabling device compliance |
| Safety Configuration | Password-protected on all variants |
UR16e vs. UR12e — Which Do You Need?
The UR16e and UR12e are frequently compared — both are e-Series cobots with the same Ø190 mm footprint and IP54 rating. Here's how they differ:
| Specification | UR12e | UR16e |
|---|---|---|
| Payload | 12.5 kg | 16 kg |
| Reach | 1300 mm | 900 mm |
| Footprint | Ø190 mm | Ø190 mm |
| Repeatability | ±0.05 mm | ±0.05 mm |
| Best For | Long reach — wide conveyor spans, palletizing, large cell layouts | Maximum payload in compact space — heavy tending, lifting, ergonomic relief |
If payload is the priority — choose the UR16e. If reach is the priority — the UR12e's 1300 mm arm gives you 400 mm more working radius with only 3.5 kg less payload capacity. Contact Automation Distribution to discuss your application: 1-888-600-3080.
