Universal Robots e-Series | Collaborative Robot
Ultra-Lightweight. Bench-Top Precision. Fits Anywhere.
The UR3e is the smallest and most compact collaborative robot in the Universal Robots portfolio — and the right choice for anyone automating precision tasks in tight workspaces where a larger cobot simply doesn't fit. With a 3 kg payload, 500 mm reach, and ±0.03 mm repeatability, it handles screwdriving, dispensing, light assembly, quality inspection, and lab automation with a consistency that manual processes cannot match.
At just 11.2 kg with a Ø128 mm footprint, the UR3e mounts on a benchtop, inside a machine, on a wall, or from a ceiling — without restructuring your production layout. It deploys in under an hour, redeploys to a new task the same day, and runs at ~150 W under moderate operating conditions — comparable to a light bulb.
The UR3e's infinite end-joint (Wrist 3) rotation is a hardware feature unique to this model in the e-Series — enabling continuous screwdriving, polishing, and dispensing applications without joint limit interruptions. This is the primary reason the UR3e is specified for screwdriving over larger models with identical repeatability.
Available on both PolyScope 5 and PolyScope X, the UR3e is compliant with EN ISO 13849-1 (PLd Category 3) and EN ISO 10218-1, with 21 configurable safety functions across all variants.

Fits Where Other Robots Don't
Ø128 mm footprint. 11.2 kg arm weight. Mounts on a standard benchtop, inside a machine enclosure, on a wall, or inverted from a gantry — without structural changes. For space-constrained production cells, electronics lines, and lab environments, the UR3e deploys where a UR7e or larger model physically cannot.
±0.03 mm Repeatability — Consistent Every Cycle
The same ±0.03 mm repeatability as the UR7e, in a platform less than half the size. For screwdriving, dispensing, component insertion, and inspection tasks where positional consistency directly determines yield, the UR3e delivers production-grade precision without production-grade footprint.
Ready in Under an Hour
An untrained operator can unpack, mount, and run a first task in under an hour on either PolyScope 5 or PolyScope X. No robotics background required. When your production task changes, reprogram and redeploy the same day.
Runs Lights-Out at 150 W
At ~150 W moderate operating power — comparable to a standard light bulb — the UR3e runs unattended around the clock without a meaningful energy cost. For 24/7 inspection, assembly, and lab automation cycles, the operational cost per hour is negligible.
Force Sensing at Small Scale
The integrated wrist force/torque sensor (±30 N range, ±10 Nm torque) detects contact, confirms insertion, and enables compliant motion at the scale of small parts — without requiring an external force sensor. For thread-starting, connector insertion, and contact-based inspection, this is what prevents damage on every cycle.
Safe to Deploy Alongside People
21 configurable safety functions and ISO/TS 15066 compliance enable human-robot collaboration — often without barriers or cages in appropriate applications. The UR3e's light weight and low inertia make it the most inherently safe robot in the e-Series lineup for shared workspace deployments.
The UR3e's combination of small footprint, high precision, and infinite end-joint rotation makes it the platform of choice for light-payload automation where consistency and compactness matter more than reach and payload capacity.
Quality Inspection & 3D Metrology
Mount a structured-light scanner, laser profiler, camera, or contact probe and let the UR3e run your inspection cycle autonomously. ±0.03 mm repeatability ensures consistent scanner positioning on every measurement — eliminating the operator variability that degrades manual measurement repeatability. At 3D Infotech, a UR cobot automates metrology on cast engine blocks, running full inspection cycles unattended while the operator manages part flow and exception handling.
Vision-Guided Pick & Place / Inspection
The UR3e integrates directly into enclosed vision cells — its compact footprint fits within the cell structure without requiring a larger enclosure. Machine vision lighting, cameras, and conveyor systems combine with the UR3e's precision positioning to deliver fully automated inspection and sorting cycles at throughput rates that justify the cell on electronics, pharmaceutical, and consumer goods lines.
Light Assembly & Collaborative Testing
The UR3e works directly alongside operators in shared workcells — no safety cage required in appropriate applications. At EVCO Plastics, a UR cobot handles automated testing within a multi-station fixture while operators manage loading, exception handling, and process oversight. The robot runs the repetitive, precision-dependent steps; operators handle the judgment-dependent ones.
Light Machine Tending & Material Handling
The UR3e's compact reach and light weight make it deployable at press fixtures, moulding machines, and handling stations where a larger cobot would exceed the available envelope. It handles the repetitive load/unload and transfer cycles — keeping the machine running while the operator manages changeovers, quality checks, and process adjustments.
Screwdriving & Fastening
The UR3e's infinite end-joint rotation eliminates joint-limit interruptions in continuous screwdriving cycles. On electronics, appliance, and small assembly lines, it runs fastening sequences with torque-controlled precision across every cycle — without the fatigue, inconsistency, and injury risk of manual screwdriving at volume.
Dispensing
Adhesive, sealant, thermal paste, conformal coating, and fluid dispensing on PCBs and small assemblies. ±0.03 mm repeatability delivers bead consistency and placement accuracy that manual dispensing and simple XY dispensing machines cannot match across high-mix production.
Lab Automation
Pipetting, sample handling, microplate movement, and standardized testing protocols in pharmaceutical, life sciences, and research environments. The UR3e's benchtop footprint, precision, and any-orientation mounting integrate directly into existing lab workstation layouts.
The UR3e is built on the same collaborative safety architecture as every e-Series cobot — 21 configurable safety functions, force/torque sensing at the wrist, and full compliance with EN ISO 13849-1 (PLd Category 3) and EN ISO 10218-1. Its light weight (11.2 kg) and low operating inertia make it the most inherently safe robot in the e-Series lineup for shared workspace deployments — subject, as always, to a site-specific risk assessment.
