Universal Robots UR Series | Collaborative Robot
Sharp. Compact. Outsized Performance at Arm's Reach.
The UR15 is the newest member of the Universal Robots UR Series — and the most capable cobot in the most sought-after payload and reach class in the collaborative robot market. With a 15 kg standard payload (expandable to 17.5 kg under boundary conditions per the user manual) and 1300 mm of reach, the UR15 addresses the widest range of manufacturing automation opportunities without requiring a step up to a large-format industrial robot platform.
What makes the UR15 distinct is the combination of its payload class leadership with a compact 40.7 kg arm weight and a Ø204 mm footprint. At 5 m/s maximum TCP speed — the highest of any cobot in the UR Series — the UR15 delivers throughput-class performance without the infrastructure cost of a traditional industrial robot. It deploys into space-constrained production cells, redeployment between cells is fast, and it is available on both PolyScope 5 and PolyScope X — making it compatible with existing UR fleets and new deployments alike.
The UR15 is IP65-rated at the arm, ISO 14644-1 Class 6 cleanroom-certified, UL 1740 and TÜV-certified, and compliant with EN ISO 13849-1 (PLd Category 3) and EN ISO 10218-1. It mounts in any orientation and integrates with the full UR+ certified ecosystem through the standard ISO 9409-1-50-4-M6 tool flange.

Fastest in the UR Series
5 m/s maximum TCP speed — the highest of any UR cobot — directly reduces cycle times in high-throughput applications where output-per-shift is the primary metric. Applications where the UR10e's speed was the limiting factor find a step-change improvement in the UR15.
Expanded Payload with Boundary Conditions
The UR15 supports up to 17.5 kg under boundary conditions defined in the user manual — future-proofing applications that occasionally require heavier lifts without stepping up to a larger, more expensive platform. Consult the UR15 User Manual for boundary condition requirements before specifying the expanded payload.
OptiMove Motion Technology
Built into PolyScope X, OptiMove provides intuitive control over relative speed and acceleration. The result is smoother trajectories, reduced joint vibration, and faster cycle times without manual tuning — particularly impactful in high-speed palletizing, welding, and dispensing applications where motion quality directly affects output quality.
IP65 + Cleanroom Ready
IP65 at the arm and ISO 14644-1 Class 6 cleanroom certification (at ≤80% velocity and payload) make the UR15 deployable across food, pharmaceutical, electronics, and precision manufacturing environments where contamination control is a production requirement.
PolyScope X Native — AI-Ready
The UR15 ships on PolyScope X, Universal Robots' current-generation software platform. It is not a migration path from an earlier platform — PolyScope X is the native environment, with full access to the UR+ ecosystem, URCap development, and AI-capable features being added to the platform as they mature.
Redeploy Across Applications
At 40.7 kg with any-orientation mounting, the UR15 moves between cells faster than heavier large-payload platforms. One robot across multiple heavy applications — palletizing one shift, machine tending the next — maximizes automation ROI across your operation.
The UR15 targets the widest range of industrial automation applications in the 15 kg payload class — tasks where the UR10e's 12.5 kg payload is the limiting constraint, and where stepping up to a UR20 or UR30 would add cost, size, and complexity the application doesn't require.
Palletizing
15 kg payload and 1300 mm reach cover the majority of pallet-layer configurations at standard case weights. At 5 m/s maximum TCP speed, the UR15 achieves cycle rates that make palletizing ROI calculations straightforward — without requiring a dedicated large-format robot cell. IP65 rating and Class 6 cleanroom certification make it equally deployable in food, beverage, and pharmaceutical palletizing environments where contamination control is a production requirement.
Press Tending & Material Handling
The UR15's payload headroom handles heavy sheet metal blanks, formed parts, and multi-part grippers that push lighter cobots past their limits. Reach and payload support load/unload cycles at stamping presses, punch presses, and hydraulic forming equipment — where part weight, gripper weight, and positional accuracy requirements all compound. The embedded wrist force/torque sensor confirms part seating and detects anomalies before the press cycle starts.
Pick & Place / Packaging
The UR15 handles heavy product and multi-part pick cycles in packaging lines where part weight, gripper tooling, and throughput speed requirements exceed what lighter cobots can sustain. Working collaboratively alongside operators — without safety caging — it handles the repetitive, ergonomically demanding elements of packaging while workers manage quality and changeover tasks that require judgment.
Machine Tending
Reach and payload handle most CNC load/unload scenarios. The embedded force/torque sensor confirms part seating before the machine cycle starts — eliminating mis-load scrap events without requiring an external force sensing system.
Welding
Speed, reach, and smooth OptiMove trajectories support consistent torch positioning for MIG and TIG arc welding. Payload headroom handles heavy torch assemblies and wire feeders without approaching the payload limit.
Dispensing
Precise TCP control and configurable OptiMove speed and acceleration profiles support adhesive, sealant, and fluid dispensing with repeatable bead quality across every cycle.
Sanding & Polishing
Force-controlled surface contact combined with OptiMove motion delivers consistent finishing results on complex contoured parts — with contact force manageable via PolyScope X without external force sensing hardware.
Material Removal
Deburring, trimming, and deflashing at heavier tool weights — the UR15's expanded payload envelope under boundary conditions accommodates heavier abrasive tooling and material removal fixtures.
Quality Inspection
±0.05 mm repeatability supports vision-guided and contact-based dimensional verification at consistent positioning across every cycle — without operator variability affecting measurement results.
The UR15 is built on Universal Robots' collaborative safety architecture — 21 configurable safety functions, an integrated wrist force/torque sensor, and full compliance with EN ISO 13849-1 (PLd Category 3), EN ISO 10218-1, and UL 1740. At 15 kg payload, the UR15 can operate in shared workspaces with appropriate risk assessment and safety configuration in place — subject to the site-specific risk assessment required for all cobot deployments under ISO/TS 15066 regardless of payload class.

The UR15 fills the gap between the UR12e's reach advantage and the UR16e's payload-in-compact-space advantage. It is the right choice when 15 kg payload at 1300 mm reach — delivered at 5 m/s — is the application requirement.

Need reach and payload both? The UR15 is the only UR Series cobot that delivers 15 kg payload at 1300 mm reach. If payload is the primary constraint in a compact cell, the UR16e's 16 kg at 900 mm may be the better fit. Contact Automation Distribution to discuss your application: 1-888-600-3080.
The UR15 is available with both PolyScope 5 and PolyScope X. Both platforms run on the same robot arm — the difference is the controller generation, software capabilities, and available cable lengths.
