Heavy-Duty, Compact — Maximum Payload in Minimum Space.

16 kg Payload 900 mm Reach ±0.05 mm Repeatability 17 Safety Functions IP54 Rated PolyScope 5 & PolyScope X

Heavy Payload. Compact Footprint. No Compromise.

The UR16e is Universal Robots' answer to a specific and common problem in manufacturing: the need to lift heavy parts in environments where space is at a premium. With 16 kg of payload capacity in the same compact e-Series body that houses the UR10e — and a footprint of just Ø 190 mm — the UR16e delivers the highest payload density of any cobot in its class.

Where other high-payload robots demand a dedicated cell, a large footprint, or a full safety cage installation, the UR16e fits on an existing workstation, integrates into a running production line, and works collaboratively alongside operators. It handles heavy parts, multi-part loads, heavy-duty machine tending, and ergonomically challenging tasks that put real strain on workers — without the infrastructure demands of traditional industrial automation.

With 900 mm of reach, the UR16e can access the interior of CNC machines, tend large presses, reach across conveyor spans, and handle components that previously required two-person lifts — all in a platform light enough to redeploy when your production requirements change.

The Highest Payload Density in the e-Series

The UR16e carries 16 kg in the same compact body as the UR10e — more than 28% more payload capacity with an identical Ø190 mm footprint and nearly identical robot weight. For applications where payload matters more than reach, the UR16e is the most efficient platform in the e-Series lineup.

Why the UR16e

Maximum Payload, Minimum Footprint16 kg in a Ø190 mm footprint means the UR16e fits where traditional high-payload robots don't — on existing workbenches, inside machine enclosures, and within production lines already running at capacity.
Eliminate Ergonomic RiskHeavy part handling and repetitive lifting over 10 kg is one of the leading causes of workplace injury. The UR16e takes those tasks permanently off your workforce, reducing injury claims, downtime, and turnover.
Full Speed at Full PayloadThe UR16e is engineered to run at maximum speed across its full payload range at maximum reach — not a theoretical peak that requires reducing load or speed in practice.
Multi-Part HandlingHeavy tooling and multi-part grippers push effective payload requirements well above the part weight alone. The UR16e's payload headroom supports complex end-effectors and multi-part pick strategies.
Collaborative Safety Architecture17 configurable safety functions, force/torque sensing on all 6 joints, and ISO/TS 15066 compliance mean the UR16e can work alongside people even at high payload — subject to risk assessment.
Redeploy Across ApplicationsWhen heavy-duty tasks change or production lines are reconfigured, the UR16e moves with them. One robot across multiple heavy applications — maximizing your automation ROI.

Common Applications

The UR16e targets the heaviest end of collaborative automation — tasks where payload is the primary constraint and where traditional automation solutions are often too expensive, too large, or too inflexible to justify.

Palletizing

The UR16e's 16 kg payload handles the majority of standard palletizing unit loads — including cartons, bags, and trays — with payload headroom for heavy grippers and suction tooling. Its compact footprint integrates into existing end-of-line layouts without major infrastructure changes, running unattended around the clock across food, beverage, consumer goods, and industrial packaging lines.

Heavy Machine Tending

The UR16e reaches inside CNC lathes, machining centers, and grinding equipment to load and unload heavy workpieces — the kind of parts that push the limits of lighter cobots and make two-person operation the default in manual cells. Its compact reach profile fits within machine enclosures, and its payload capacity handles large castings, forgings, and multi-part fixtures without compromise.

Welding

Heavy welding fixtures, thick torch assemblies, and cable management all eat into available payload on lighter cobots. The UR16e's payload headroom supports full welding torch setups — including wire feeders and torch cooling assemblies — without sacrificing speed or path quality. Certified welding URCaps from leading equipment manufacturers make integration straightforward, and PolyScope X's OptiMove delivers cleaner weld seams on complex paths.

Sanding, Polishing & Material Removal

Force-controlled sanding and surface finishing on heavy metal components, large tooling blocks, and structural fabrications demands both payload capacity and consistent contact force over extended cycles. The UR16e handles heavy sanding tools and large workpieces while an operator monitors and manages the process — the robot does the physically demanding work, the operator focuses on quality oversight.

Collaborative & Safe at High Payload

The UR16e is built on the same collaborative safety architecture as every e-Series cobot — 17 configurable safety functions, force/torque sensing on all 6 joints, and full ISO/TS 15066 compliance. Even at 16 kg payload, the UR16e can operate in shared workspaces with appropriate risk assessment and safety configuration in place. This is what makes it fundamentally different from traditional industrial robots at this payload class — it doesn't demand a cage, a light curtain, or a dedicated safety zone by default.
