SMC EX600 Modular Fieldbus Platform

SMC EX600 Modular Fieldbus Platform

Build a complete valve I/O node on any network. Pick your protocol, add the I/O you need, and complete the manifold - all from one modular, IP67 platform. Shop every EX600 part below, or jump to replacement parts if you are servicing an existing unit.

8+ Network Protocols Up to 1024 I/O Points Up to 9 I/O Units / Manifold IP67 On-Machine Mount SY / JSY / SV / VQC / S0700

The SMC EX600 is a modular fieldbus and valve I/O system that puts solenoid valve outputs, sensor inputs, analog signals, and IO-Link devices onto a single industrial network node. One SI (serial interface) communication unit determines the network protocol; everything else on the manifold is modular and interchangeable. Instead of running every solenoid and sensor wire back to PLC I/O cards in the control cabinet, the EX600 collects them at the machine and passes them through one network cable - cutting wiring, panel space, and commissioning time.

Use the three steps below to build a complete system, or skip to replacement parts if a unit has failed in the field.

STEP 1

Choose Your Protocol (SI Unit)

The SI unit is the brain of the EX600 - it sets the network protocol and is the only protocol-specific part on the manifold. Pick the one that matches your PLC network. PNP (-COM) and NPN (+COM) output versions are available for most protocols.

How an EX600 System Goes Together

A minimum working EX600 node is just three parts:

1 SI Unit (protocol)  +  1 End Plate (power)  +  1 or more I/O Units

Add a valve plate bracket and SMC valve manifold (SY, JSY, SV, VQC, or S0700) to control solenoids, or run the EX600 as a standalone distributed I/O node with no valves at all. Mix digital, analog, and IO-Link modules in any order, up to 9 units and 1024 I/O points per manifold.

Have a part number off a failed unit? Match it to the right current part below. I/O modules and end plates are direct cross-references; SI units may map to a newer generation.

EtherNet/IP SI unit upgrade: The current-generation EX600-SEN7 (PNP) and EX600-SEN8 (NPN) replace the prior EX600-SEN1/SEN2 (single port) and EX600-SEN3/SEN4 (dual port), adding dual ports, DLR ring redundancy, and QuickConnect. The manifold, I/O modules, and end plates carry over unchanged - only the SI unit changes.

EX600 or EX260 - Which Do You Need?

Choose the EX600 when you need a modular node that combines valve outputs with digital inputs, analog I/O, or IO-Link masters on one manifold.

Choose the EX260 when you only need valve output control - it is a compact, lower-cost SI unit (just 28 mm wide) that mounts straight on the valve manifold with no add-on I/O.

EX600 Frequently Asked Questions

What is the SMC EX600?

The SMC EX600 is a modular fieldbus and valve I/O platform. A single SI (serial interface) unit connects the manifold to your PLC network, and up to 9 modular I/O units - digital input, digital output, analog, and IO-Link master - snap on in any combination for up to 1024 I/O points. It replaces discrete valve and sensor wiring with one network cable.

How do I choose the right EX600 SI unit?

Choose by network protocol - EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, EtherCAT, PROFIBUS-DP, DeviceNet, CC-Link, CC-Link IE Field, or POWERLINK - and by output polarity (PNP or NPN). The SI unit is the only protocol-specific part; the rest of the manifold stays the same across protocols.

Can I mix I/O modules on one EX600 manifold?

Yes. I/O modules are protocol-independent and mount in any order. One manifold supports up to 9 I/O units in any mix of digital input, digital output, combo, analog, and IO-Link master modules, for up to 1024 total I/O points (512 in / 512 out).

Which valves work with the EX600?

The EX600 is compatible with SMC SY and JSY series, SV1000/2000/3000, VQC1000/2000/4000, and S0700 valve manifolds. A matching valve plate bracket joins the EX600 to the valve base.

My EX600-SEN1 failed - what replaces it?

The current-generation EX600-SEN7 (PNP) or EX600-SEN8 (NPN) replaces the EX600-SEN1, SEN2, SEN3, and SEN4 EtherNet/IP SI units. It adds dual Ethernet ports, DLR ring redundancy, and QuickConnect. Your existing I/O modules and end plate carry over - only the SI unit changes.

Can the EX600 run without valves as standalone I/O?

Yes. With an SI unit, an end plate, and one or more I/O modules, the EX600 works as a distributed I/O node with no valve manifold attached - useful for collecting sensor signals at a point on the machine where there are no valves.

Is the EX600 IP67 rated?

M8 and M12 connector versions are rated IP67 for on-machine mounting without an enclosure. D-sub and spring-terminal versions are rated IP40 and are intended for in-panel use.
