18 kg Payload. Compact Footprint. Built for Fast-Paced Heavy Automation.

The UR18 combines strength and agility in one of the most compact heavy-payload cobots available. With an 18 kg payload, 950 mm reach, and speeds up to 4 m/s, it is purpose-built for fast-paced pick-and-place, palletizing, machine tending, and welding deployments where reducing cycle times is the primary goal — and where payload headroom over the UR16e is the constraint that matters.

At 39.2 kg arm weight with a Ø204 mm footprint, the UR18 is light enough for easy mounting on most standard gantry systems and compact enough to deploy in existing cells without major structural changes. Its IP65 arm rating makes it suitable for demanding industrial environments, and its 2-1-3 joint architecture delivers the reach envelope and agility needed for high-throughput production cycles.

The UR18 is available on both PolyScope 5 and PolyScope X platforms, making it compatible with existing UR fleets and future deployments alike. It is compliant with EN ISO 13849-1 (PLd Category 3), EN ISO 10218-1, and UL 1740, with 21 configurable safety functions across all variants.

Gantry-Ready at 39.2 kg
The UR18 is light enough for easy mounting on most standard gantry systems — delivering 18 kg payload capacity overhead or inverted without requiring a purpose-built heavy mounting structure. This opens palletizing, overhead transfer, and inverted machine tending configurations that heavier high-payload robots cannot practically support.

Why the UR18

18 kg in a Compact Body
The UR18 delivers the highest payload of any cobot in its footprint class. At Ø204 mm — the same base diameter as the UR15 — it fits into existing cell layouts designed for lighter cobots, without requiring a larger base, a bigger control enclosure, or significant structural changes to the mounting surface.

Built for Fast-Paced Pick-and-Place
With 4 m/s maximum TCP speed and 18 kg payload, the UR18 handles high-throughput pick, transfer, and place cycles at weights that previously required a traditional industrial robot — and the safety fencing, integration complexity, and capital cost that comes with one. For palletizing, machine tending, and heavy packaging lines, throughput-per-hour improvements are direct and measurable.

Heavy End Effectors Without Payload Penalty
Heavy grippers, multi-part tooling plates, vacuum cups with manifolds, and welding torch assemblies all consume payload before the part weight is counted. The UR18's 18 kg headroom accommodates complex end-of-arm tooling at full rated payload — without the compromises required when running a lighter cobot near its limit.

IP65 for Demanding Environments
IP65 at the arm makes the UR18 deployable in applications with wash-down requirements, coolant exposure, metal particulate, and other environmental factors that degrade lighter-rated cobots over time. Welding, machining, food processing, and other harsh-environment applications all benefit from the higher IP classification.

PolyScope 5 and PolyScope X — Both Available
The UR18 supports both software platforms, giving buyers the choice of joining an existing PS5 fleet for consistency or deploying on PolyScope X for next-generation capabilities including OptiMove motion control, AI-readiness, and browser-based offline programming.

Eliminate Ergonomic Injury Risk
Heavy repetitive lifting over 18 kg is among the highest-risk manual handling tasks in manufacturing. The UR18 removes those tasks from your workforce permanently — reducing injury claims, downtime, and turnover while improving throughput consistency across all shifts.

Common Applications

The UR18 targets the upper end of collaborative automation — tasks where 16 kg is not enough payload headroom and where the UR20's additional reach is not required. It is the right cobot when heavy end effectors, multi-part grippers, or consistently heavy parts push a UR16e past its practical operating range.

Palletizing
18 kg payload handles standard case weights plus the gripper and tooling plate — covering the majority of palletizing configurations where a UR16e runs at or near its practical limit. At 4 m/s TCP speed, the UR18 delivers cycle times that make palletizing ROI calculations straightforward. IP65 rating makes it equally deployable in food, beverage, and pharmaceutical environments where wash-down or contamination control is a production requirement.

Welding
Heavy MIG and TIG torch assemblies, wire feeders, and multi-fixture tooling all consume payload before the weld begins. The UR18's 18 kg headroom supports complex welding end effectors at full rated capacity — without the speed and reach trade-offs required when running a lighter cobot near its limit. Consistent torch positioning at ±0.05 mm repeatability delivers weld quality that manual or inconsistent robotic processes cannot match.

CNC Machine Tending
Heavy fixtures, dual-part grippers, and large machined components routinely exceed 16 kg when gripper weight is included. The UR18 handles these load/unload cycles at full payload — with the embedded wrist force/torque sensor confirming part seating before the CNC cycle starts, eliminating mis-load scrap events. 950 mm reach accesses most CNC enclosure interiors without requiring the robot to be positioned awkwardly close to the machine door.

Heavy Material Handling
Transfer and positioning of heavy castings, forgings, fabricated components, and large sub-assemblies between workstations — eliminating repetitive heavy lifting injuries while improving throughput consistency across all shifts.

Injection Moulding / Press Tending
Extracting heavy moulded parts, loading heavy inserts, and tending large stamping or hydraulic presses. The SPI AN-146 / Euromap-67 interface is available on OEM control box variants for direct injection moulding machine integration.

Screw Driving & Fastening
Heavy torque tooling on large assembly operations — automotive, appliance, and industrial equipment manufacturing — where torque reaction forces and tool weight combine to push lighter cobots past their limits.

Dispensing & Sanding / Polishing
Heavy dispensing heads and abrasive tooling for adhesive, sealant, and surface finishing applications on large or heavy components — with force-controlled contact via the integrated wrist sensor and configurable OptiMove motion profiles on PolyScope X variants.

Industries Where the UR18 Excels
Automotive manufacturing and tier suppliers, CNC job shops and machining centers, metal fabrication and welding, food & beverage packaging and palletizing, injection moulding and plastics, heavy consumer goods assembly, aerospace sub-assembly, and any operation where heavy repetitive lifting or complex heavy-tooling applications are the current constraint.

Collaborative & Safe at Heavy Payload

The UR18 is built on Universal Robots' collaborative safety architecture — 21 configurable safety functions, an integrated wrist force/torque sensor, and full compliance with EN ISO 13849-1 (PLd Category 3), EN ISO 10218-1, and UL 1740. At 18 kg payload, the UR18 can operate in shared workspaces with appropriate risk assessment and safety configuration in place — subject to the site-specific risk assessment required for all cobot deployments under ISO/TS 15066 regardless of payload class.

Risk Assessment Required: All cobot deployments — regardless of payload — require a site-specific risk assessment per EN ISO 10218-1 and ISO/TS 15066. The UR18's certified safety functions support risk mitigation but do not replace the risk assessment obligation. Higher payload increases contact forces — risk assessment must account for this in shared workspace configurations.

UR18 vs. UR Series — Where It Fits

The UR18 sits between the UR16e and the UR20 — delivering more payload than any compact-footprint cobot in the lineup, at a reach that serves machine tending, palletizing, welding, and press tending without needing the UR20's longer arm.
