Wal-Mart's Aisle-Roving Robots
One of America’s largest retailers, Wal-Mart, has deployed roving robots in 50 stores across the US. The robots are designed to detect low inventory, price discrepancies, as well as incorrect labels. When it sees a qualifying event, the robot sends an alert to employees for resolution. While the program has improved the efficiency of performing these tasks, "This has largely been about how we improve our performance and improve our service to our customers," John Crecelius, Wal-Mart’s VP of Innov

NASA Uses Collaborative Robots for Infrared Inspections
As part of the Advanced Composites Project, which has a goal to improve “methods, tools, and protocols to reduce the development and certification timeline for composite materials and structures,” NASA is testing collaborative robots to perform quality inspections on aircraft fuselages. Each fuselage is inspected with infrared thermography, which requires moving heavy equipment around all surfaces to complete the inspection process. The Universal Robots UR10 was selected to replace the manua

New actuator for safety sensors with RFID technology
The ST series safety sensors with RFID technology from Pizzato Elettrica are available with a new actuator in compact dimensions. This actuator can only be mounted forward facing and the actuation distance is 12 mm; due to the reduced thickness of just 7 mm, it can be installed in all applications with restricted space conditions and thereby enables use of RFID technology, even with guards of small dimensions. The new actuator is available in versions with low coding level (actuator SM L0T) or hig

Why We Name Our Robots
At the BMW plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, a collaborative robot was installed to apply insulation to doors. The first of 60, its human coworkers named it, or her, Charlotte. A similar story happened at the Johnson & Johnson plant where employees named their
Universal Robots helper Clio.
“The fact that the employees have named the robot says it all,” said a supplier to Johnson & Johnson. But what do these naming conventions really say about our relationship with collaborative robot
